Special events happen nearly every day such as
storytelling, poetry contests, and crossword puzzle day.
There are also a number of
family workshops and special monthly events like December's
Gingerbread festival.
The penitentiary has been used in movies
and television and grants have restored much of the
dilapidating buildings. Visitors can now enjoy a rather
eerie self-guided audio tour entitled "Voices of Eastern
State."
