It seems that wealthy Bucks County businessman Henry Mercer collected just about everything. From tools to boats to musical instruments, the eccentric Mercer amassed a collection of early American artifacts that's simply staggering.

For lovers of early American folk art, implements, and furnishings, this is the ideal museum.

Children will also love viewing Mercer's collection of over 40,000 artifacts, all tucked neatly into Mercer's towering castle-like house.

Kids need to scale the tower steps to reach a number of the exhibits and exploring the castle can be just as much fun as viewing the artifacts.

Aside from the usual exhibits, the Mercer Museum hosts special displays throughout the year and presents entertaining special events like doll tea parties and basket-making classes.

The museum is located in the center of picturesque Doylestown, an easily-accessible northern suburb of the city that served as home to such famous folks as author James Michener and musical genius Oscar Hammerstein.
