The Brandywine River Museum
in Philadelphia, situated inside a 19th century grist mill, is a
museum of regional and American art. The museum is internationally-acclaimed
for its collection of artwork by three generations of Wyeths - N.C.,
Andrew, and James. Carolyn and Henriette Wyeth,
|
|
daughters of
N.C., are also represented in the collection.
The Brandywine River
Museum's primary emphasis is on the art history of the Brandywine
Valley, on American landscape and still life painting, and
on illustration.
It houses more than
3,000 works on art in the museum and in the home and studio
of N.C. Wyeth, located on the museum property.
Visitors
can also travel to the Kuerner Farm, the inspiration for
many of Andrew Wyeth's paintings
|
and enjoy the Wildflower Gardens,
featuring indigenous and naturalized plants of the Brandywine Valley.
The museum is easily reached from Philadelphia via Interstate 95
and the area around Chadds Ford, located just north of the Delaware
border, is chock full of history.
