The American Helicopter Museum
in suburban Philadelphia is one of only a handful of aviation museums
in the nation that are totally dedicated to helicopters. The museum currently
houses 35 military and civilian helicopters, autogiros,
and convertaplanes.

|
The displays span the history of rotary
wing aircraft production from its earliest days to the present.
One of the area's
newer museums, the American Helicopter Museum opened in
1996 in hopes of creating a "lasting tribute to those men
and women who pioneered the development of rotary wing aircraft."
By encouraging
children to visit and interact with the displays, the
creators of the museum also hope to encourage future
generations of aviators.
|
The museum
also exhibits the ways in which helicopters assist such industries
and occupations as law enforcement, fire-fighting, traffic reporting,
movie making, and construction.
Located in suburban West
Chester, the museum is an easy drive from Center City Philadelphia
and is a treat for children who hope to one day fly the friendly
skies.
