The suburban Pennsbury Manor in Philadelphia is a recreation of William Penn's beautiful country home in surrounding Bucks County, PA. Penn built his house here because he believed that life in the country was more wholesome than life in the crowded city.
Today, Pennsbury Manor is a living museum to honor Penn and the life of the early colonists. Educational programs abound at Pennsbury Manor, situated on just 43 acres of Penn's original 8400 acres that he purchased from the local Lenni Lenape Indians.
Guided tours teach you about Hannah Penn and her children, who spent much more time on the property then Penn himself. Children will love the farm animals and enjoy writing with a quill pen and ink. Through special programs, visitors can enjoy a colonial meal, cooked on an open hearth, such as Penn's servants would have done.
The gift shop offers colonial games and toys, crafts and artwork, and Pennsbury Manor souvenirs. Pennsbury Manor is located about 30 miles north of center city Philadelphia and can be easily reached by Interstate 95. |
