Betsy Ross' House in Philadelphia is a remarkable place. Almost more remarkable than the event that occurred at this house was how it was purchased and turned into a national monument.

Beginning in 1898, 2 million Americans donated dimes to take the house from its state of terrible disrepair and turn it into a national historic site. For their donation, each person received a certificate of appreciation and a copy of the famous Weisgerber painting showing Betsy Ross presenting the newly-designed flag to George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross.

Today, tourists can visit the house that was never actually owner by Betsy and John Ross, but was rented by them from 1773 to 1786. The couple ran their upholstery business from the home as well. Visitors will enjoy visiting most of the rooms in the 9-room house and can view memorabilia from Betsy's flag-making days as well as the site of her grave.
