Christ Church in Philadelphia was nicknamed "The Nation's Church." Christ Church Philadelphia was established in 1695 and for 66 years was the only Church of England parish in Philadelphia. The beautiful Georgian-style church that welcomes thousands of visitors each year was built between 1727 and 1744.

The church's tower and steeple was financed 10 years later by lotteries that were managed by Benjamin Franklin. Some of the nation's most famous colonists worshipped in this parish, including George and Martha Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Francis Hopkinson, and Robert Morris.

But years before Benjamin Franklin grew to be one of Christ Church's most famous worshippers, he was baptized at the church in a font that was brought to Philadelphia in 1697 from the All Hallows Church Barking-by-the-Tower in London. Many early Philadelphians are buried in Christ Church's graveyard including Franklin and Hopkinson. Concerts are held every first Friday and feature local organists, instrumentalists, and choral ensembles.
