Location: Peddler‘s Village, Lahaska, Bucks County
The Peddler’s Village Scarecrow Competition and Display will make you glad that you’re not a crow! Dozens of overstuffed, bigger-than-life scarecrow creations are displayed outdoors around charming Peddler’s Village, their makers competing for nearly $5,000 in cash prizes. Enter the contest yourself, or just marvel at the contestants’ work.
The unusual craft is known as American Fold Art, and in case you thought that a scarecrow is just a scarecrow, think again:
You’ll see entries in categories like Benjamin Franklin (new this year), Extraordinary Contemporary, Traditional and Whirligig (with bodily parts that move in the wind!).
And you can cast your vote to pick a winner from the most unusual and exceptional entries.
On Sept. 17 and 18, enjoy special scarecrow-making workshops, a perfect activity that allows families to work together. Building materials are provided, and participants can choose from a variety of shirts, pants and decorations. And, of course, there’ll be plenty of straw. Novices welcome. Make a scarecrow and take it home!
There’ll also be live entertainment as well as a pumpkin-painting workshop.
