Location: Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Live8 concert in Philadelphia, organized by musician and activist Bob Geldof, promises to be an even more spectacular than the original 1985 LiveAid extravaganza. Organized in protest of the G8 summit meeting in Edinburgh, the concerts will take place in five countries throughout the world including the U.S., England, France, Italy, and Germany.
The Philadelphia event, held outside the city‘s magnificent Museum of Art, will feature an amazing array of stars including host Will Smith and musical entertainment by 50 Cent, Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band, Jay Z, P. Diddy, Kaiser Chiefs, Keith Urban, Maroon5, Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachan, and the inimitable Stevie Wonder.
The initial Live8 concerts, followed by one in Edinburgh four days later, will kick-off the Long Walk to Justice, which will culminate in a large-scale protest outside the location of the G8 Summit, a high-powered meeting where a group of leaders from the wealthiest countries in the world gather to plan economic policy that affects impoverished countries the world over. In 1985, Geldof succeeded in raising $100 million for victims of the famine in Africa.
