The annual Caribbean Festival at Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing is amazing festival of colorful sights, sounds and delicious aromas begins with a sampling of some of the Caribbean’s traditional tastes, from escovitched fish and festival cakes to codfish fritters, Jamaican jerk chicken and hard-dough bread, curried goat, West African kabobs and Trinidadian roti.
Wash it all down with Caribbean Kola Champagne or Caribbean Ade, and start over again with exotic fruits such as water coconut, sugar cane and guinnep. Sway to the beat of the traditional Caribbean tin drums as you drink in the sights and sounds of this amazing island, birthplace of some of America’s most popular musical traditions, from ska to calypso and from soca to reggae. You’ll also be treated to ethnic poetry and spoken word performances throughout the day, and for those wanting to get their groove on, there’ll be dance lessons, too.
